Letter From the Editors

 Hola, Bonjour, Guten Tag, 你好, Shalom,    

On behalf of your Editors-in-Chief, Daniel Braun and Callie Milner, welcome to this semester’s edition of the Worldly Roman! We are bringing you terrific new articles on a wide range of topics in a number of different languages and about different cultures. Each article is written in a world language other than English, but if you do not know the language, feel free to read the English summary at the top! This issue contains stories on topics such as elections in France, how to deal with quarantining with Covid-19, and recipes to try at home. You can also learn more about Hungary and explore the dangers of plastic. Thank you to all of our writers for working so hard! Feel free to leave comments or questions below the articles (in any language!). We would also like to thank our fabulous language editors: Sabrina Hayes (French Editor), Mia Lapiere (Chinese Editor), and Amanda Valenzuela (Spanish Editor). A great big thank you to the Worldly Roman advisor, Mme. Cousin. We would also like to thank all of the language teachers who helped edit our articles: Profe Espejo, Profe Pérez, and Di Lao Shi. We really appreciate all of the teachers’ time, guidance, and support.

 On behalf of your Editors-in-Chief, Daniel Braun and Callie Milner, welcome to this year’s second edition of the Worldly Roman! Yup, last edition of the year, the 2020-21 school year end is in sight. We hope you find time to check out the amazing articles from our staff before you take off to enjoy the sunshine and summer. Our world has been anything but normal for the last year and a half, but as some of the articles in this issue highlight, things are changing fast and normal is getting closer.You can read from an amazing range of topics!  Feel free to leave comments or questions below the articles (in any language!).

 We want to acknowledge our fabulous language editors: Sabrina Hayes (French Editor), Amanda Valenzuela (Spanish Editor), and Mia Lapiere (Chinese Editor). As well as our brilliant writers: Nathalie Espinoza (Chinese), Cece Buday (Spanish), and Maya Mahoney (Spanish). A great big thank you to the wonderful Worldly Roman advisor, Mme. Cousin. Grandparents are in Town

Lia writes about a special time when her family from Korea visited Chicago.

저번 주말에 온가족이 저희 집에 모였어요. 할머니, 할아버지와 삼촌은 서울에서 오셨고, 이모네 가족은 미시간에서 오셨어요. 온가족이 다같이 모일수있는 기회가 많이 없어서,  정말 귀한 시간을 가졌어요.

사촌 지인이 16살 생일이 9월4일 이었어요. 그래서 생일에 Elly’s에서 맛있는 아침을 먹고, 그다음에 쇼핑을갔어요. 다운타운에 백화점과 많은 가게들을 구경하고, 지하철을타고 유명한 아이스크림 집, Jeni’s에서 아이스크림도 먹었어요. 지인이가 하고싶어하는것을 다 했어요.

집에 돌아와서 온가족이 함께 이탈리안 식당에서 저녁을 먹었어요. 사촌들을 자주 못보니 하루종일 시간을 같이 보낼수 있어서 너무 재미있었어요.

내 동생 현우는 올해 8학년에 들어가고, 지인이는 저와 동갑이고, 사촌언니는 벌써 대학생이에요. 나이 차이가 나도 만나면 항상재미있는 시간을 보내요.

할아버지 생신은 9월 28일 이예요. 온 가족이 함께 모였기에 할아버지의 생일 파티도 저번 주말에 했어요.  온가족이 여러지역에서 모여 파티를한 저번주말은 나에게 잊을수없는 즐거운 특별한 시간이었어요. 가족이 같이있었을 때는 집안이 시끌벅적 했어요.  가족이 또 함께 모여 이런 즐거운 시간을 보낼수 있는날을 손꼽아 기다립니다.

Over the summer, Lia spent time with her entire extended family from Korea and Michigan. Because she isn’t able to see her relatives from Korea often, it was a special weekend that she will always remember!
